Socio-Environmental Digital Twins

We combine technological innovation and sustainability to transform the management and conservation of vulnerable ecosystems. Through digitization, we offer an integrated and real-time view of natural and urban environments, enabling real-time monitoring of these areas.

Each digital twin is specifically designed to capture the complex interactions between environmental and socioeconomic factors, facilitating the development of sustainable strategies across various ecosystems, from coastal lagoons to natural parks or urban areas.

This process is based on the comprehensive analysis of large volumes of data from multiple sources, including IoT sensors, remote sensing, open databases, or social media platforms (Social Sensing), ensuring that our information and resulting strategies are accurate and reliable.

Moreover, we promote inclusive and transparent management by incorporating the opinions and needs of the local community into the decision-making process through Social Sensing. Our collaborative approach ensures that projects are not only sustainable and effective but also aligned with the expectations and well-being of the local population.

Intelligent Beaches

Smart beaches use technology to adapt to the changing needs of users and the environment.

By combining measurement, sensing, connectivity, and data analysis technologies from various sources such as IoT sensors, remote sensing, and social media platforms, we generate an intelligent monitoring platform that provides an integrated, real-time view of these natural environments.

The application provides detailed information, including physical data such as water temperature, UV radiation levels, and wave conditions, as well as other important aspects like water quality, beach accessibility and occupancy, visitor and local resident feedback, and available services, among others. This information helps both tourism and environmental managers adopt a more proactive, efficient approach tailored to the needs of tourists and the environment, while also helping visitors plan their trips better and enhance their experience, ensuring safer enjoyment of the natural environment.

Our approach also promotes more inclusive management by incorporating the opinions and needs of all communities. We use Social Sensing to capture and value the voices of all visitors, from local residents to tourists, ensuring that strategies align with everyone's interests and contribute to their collective well-being.

Our Smart Beaches service represents a breakthrough in how we manage and enjoy our natural resources. We are committed to helping destinations not only preserve the beauty of our coastal environments but also foster a responsible and enriching experience for all visitors.

Social Sensing

Social sensing is a set of techniques for collecting and analyzing data generated by humans or devices on their behalf, allowing for the capture and evaluation of information provided by interactions on digital platforms. Our platform utilizes these techniques, enriched with natural language processing capabilities similar to those used by ChatGPT, to not only capture the vast amount of available information but also analyze and understand the context and meaning behind each interaction in real time.

Some of the specific services our platform offers are:

Discovery of Topics and Trends: We identify and analyze emerging topics in user conversations, revealing areas of interest that might otherwise remain hidden.

Sentiment and Issue Analysis: We evaluate the tone and emotion of discussions, identify problems, and categorize key entities, enabling effective tracking of the evolution of sentiments and issues over time.

Geolocation of Discussions: We map discussions, pinpointing where they occur, visualizing interest around specific locations on an interactive map based on real-time conversations.

Continuous Monitoring of Topics: We continuously follow topics of interest across various platforms, providing in-depth and up-to-date insights to anticipate and respond to changes and trends.

In addition to these services, our platform can be easily integrated via an API into any other platform, allowing its use as a tool to interpret public opinion or as a reputation management module, among other applications.

With our platform, you can transform the way you interact with your community, ensuring that every decision is informed by real and real-time data.

SMARTLAGOON

Socioeconomic and environmental digital twin of the Mar Menor lagoon (Murcia)

The SMARTLAGOON project, funded by the European H2020 funds, emerges as an innovative response to the environmental and socioeconomic challenges faced by coastal lagoons, evaluated through the use case of Mar Menor, Murcia. This project has focused on developing a digital twin that accurately reflects the complexity of the socio-environmental interactions of the Mar Menor and its surroundings.

An advanced IoT infrastructure has been implemented, including oceanographic buoys and video cameras with real-time measurement capabilities. This technology allows continuous monitoring of water quality and hydrological flows, critical elements for effective lagoon management. In addition, remote sensing technologies, social network analysis, and open data repositories are used to collect and analyze crucial information on human behavior and economic and social impacts.

The project goes beyond space monitoring by promoting proactive resource management. This is achieved through community engagement by listening to and analyzing citizen perceptions expressed on social media. This approach allows strategies to be adapted to the real needs and concerns of the community, strengthening local commitment and shared responsibility in environmental conservation.

The SMARTLAGOON digital twin is not only offering practical and effective management for the Mar Menor but also establishes a replicable model for other coastal lagoons affected by similar environmental and anthropogenic challenges.

SMART WALK RELLEU

Flow control platform that adapts the Relleu footbridge to the Smart Tourist Destination (STD) management approach, identifying risks and analyzing present and future opportunities

The Smart Walk Relleu project has enhanced the tourist experience of the town of Relleu through an intelligent platform that monitors tourist traceability to Relleu's most important natural-tourist attraction, its footbridge.

Using technologies such as RFID, Wifi, and Bluetooth, we have implemented a sensing infrastructure for flow control. These sensors allow real-time data collection on visitor influx and behavior, providing a solid foundation for management decisions and improving the tourist experience.

The results of this project have been very interesting:

Tourist Flows: 13.81% of tourists moved to the urban area after completing the route, with an average stay time of almost an hour in the town, boosting local leisure and gastronomic activities.

Patterns: The data collection has made it possible to analyze visit patterns, with most visits concentrated in the mornings and a nearly even distribution of positive and neutral opinions, highlighting the beauty of the place and the experience in nature as key strengths.

This is a new step towards a Smart Tourist Destination (STD) management model that opens new avenues for sustainable tourism development and continuous improvement based on data analysis.

CHAN-TWIN

Socio-environmental digital twin of the natural park of the Mata-Torrevieja lagoons (Alicante)

The CHAN-TWIN project emerges as an innovative technological development focused on creating a digital twin of the natural park of the Torrevieja and La Mata lagoon. This initiative aims to provide an integral and real-time vision of the state of the natural park, evaluating both environmental and socioeconomic aspects. Its main objective is to establish a sustainable balance between the economy and the environment, demonstrating how human activities and biodiversity can coexist harmoniously.

Through the digitization of multiple environmental variables - such as water quality, temperature, humidity, and noise levels - ecological variables - such as bird censuses -, and socioeconomic variables - such as flow control or citizen perception captured through Social Sensing - CHAN-TWIN offers a real-time management and monitoring platform. This digital twin allows managers and scientists to observe and predict complex dynamics within the park, facilitating informed decision-making for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

In addition, the integration of the community's voice into the platform ensures that the development and management of the natural park are inclusive and reflect the needs and expectations of local visitors and residents.
